Today we sit down with LDS Scholars, Authors, and rolemodels within Mormonism, Terryl and Fiona Givens. We talk about their book “The Crucible of Doubt”. More specifically we speak about the themes of their book which is an effort to adjust paradigms and assumptions. As they testify of, this is the crux of the issue. We speak what our assumptions should be about prophets, scripture, Church History, and how we can critque and dissent within our Culture at large.
Please consider purchasing “The Crucible of Doubt” from Amazon for yourself or those you know who struggle with faith and doubt.

I really enjoyed this episode. More excited to check out their book now.
It’s really sad to hear about people acting so negatively when people are investigating/join the Church. I’d like to say that Fiona has become an important voice in the LDS community, something that family would really be proud of. I don’t think she’d have such an opportunity in Catholicism.
I’m glad to hear that Church is making progress with updates. I wonder how long it is going to be?
I’m going to check into how the RLDS do it without the Book of Mormon not having such a historical status anymore. How can they claim restorational authority anymore, or things like that. I don’t get it.
I will have an RLDS (community of Christ) person on at some point
Wonderful interview. Their perspectives really resonate with me.
But I was confused by Terryl’s comment about perhaps not having to believe in the historicity of the Book of Mormon to answer the temple recommend questions. It seems to me that when you are asked if you believe in the Restoration, that would include all the truth claims mentioned and canonized in JSH–including the authenticity of the Book of Mormon.
I will be interested in hearing how the RLDS deal with that.
Great interview. I loved the podcast and I loved the book.
My “faith crisis” has not been a crisis at all, but a great opportunity for increased spiritual growth and knowledge. There are definitely times of confusion and frustration, but patience and study without jumping to conclusions and giving in to anger eventually leads to more spiritual depth and understanding.
I just discovered your website today and I love the podcasts I have listened to so far. Thank you, Bill.
Thank you for your kind words and thanks for listening!!!
